A faithful friend is hard to find
But, when you have one, bear in mind
As I shall, when I think of you
Being a lasting friend, both kind and true.

Recall to mind the days gone by
Forget my faults and drop a tear
And think of me when no more here.

May the roses of love embellish your cot
And flourish long after your friend is forgot.

And I am numbered with the dead
And evenings soft and gentle breeze
Above my head shall wave the trees.

Dare to do right, dare to be true
Kick at your mother when she kicks at you.

Though many miles apart
Our homes may prove to be
Yet in the recess of your heart
Keep one kind thought of me.

Clouds will surely come some day
So catch the sunshine while you may.

May you ever be happy and at ease
And always be fat on crackers and cheese.

Where woodchucks die of whooping cough.

As ripples follow ships at sea,
So may God’s blessing follow thee.

Remember me when far away
Remember me on parting day
Remember me in love so sweet

Softly o’er the sea of trouble may your lifeboat gently glide
And the angels sweetly guide you to that home beyond the tide.

If writing in albums remembrance ensures,
With the greatest of pleasure I’ll write in yours.

The fox loves the valley and the deer loves the hill
The boys love the girls and I guess they always will.

Accept, my friend, these lines from me.
They show that I remember thee,
And hope some thought they will retain
Till you and I shall meet again.
