A new $10,000 Allen electric organ was recently purchased and installed by the Department of Music. Dr. Alvin C. Edgar, head of the department, commented on the purchase as "the culmination of years of planning." "The purchase of this organ marks a milestone for the Department of Music," continued Dr. Edgar. "It has a large register and makes available almost all of the effects possible on our larger church organs." The $10,000 instrument was made available through an ad-vancement by the Alumni Achievement Fund. The money will be repaid to the Fund over the next few years from money received for the rental of practice time on the organ. From a beginning of two or three students a few years ago, there are now some 25 students taking organ instruction. Students are allowed to sign up for practice at a small rate per hour. "The organ is in use from early morning to late at night 6 days a week," said Dr. Edgar. "I wish to extend a cordial invitation to any students to come to Music Hall to see the new organ." The organ is located in Room 6, Music Hall. The room has been decorated with new draperies which provide a striking setting for the magnificent instrument. |
