New Year's Resolutions
Tribune photo published January 7, 1955
Ruth Bogaard, third-grade teacher at Edwards school and school children stand in front of the New Year's resolution bulleting board in the main hall of the building. Paper has been pasted over the glass in front of the board. Through peep-holes, children can see resolutions for each grade, the teachers and the children's dogs. Miss Bogaard was in charge of the decoration. The kiddies are: (left to right) Phil Evans, Billy Saul, Sherry Taylor, Louise Bancroft, Harriet Graebner and Edward King.

Behind these peep-holes is the bulletin board at Edwards school on which the various grades have their New Year's resolutions. The one for the older children of the sixth grade says "I will set a good example." The lower opening for the third grade says "I will not hurt younger children."

New Year's resolution for the teachers at Edwards school should encourage the kiddies. It says "I will be patient!" The kiddies' dogs also had a resolution on the board which reads, "I will not enter the building." Other resolutions were: First grade, "I will not run down the halls." Second grade, "I will not shout in school." Fourth grade, "I will talk softly." Fifth grade, "I will not push others," and the kindergarten had a picture which illustrated the moral: "On rainy days carry an umbrella and wear your galoshes to school."
