New Patrol Cars
Tribune photo published Jan. 25, 1958

The Ames Police Dept. completed installing equipment in its four new patrol cars Friday.  All 1958 models, the cars arrived during the last part of December and the first part of January.  Officers in their cars are: Jack Hutchison, patrolman; Harold Olsan, Assistant Chief; C.K. Bates, patrolman; O.J. Erickson, Chief.  Previously the department has been using only three cars, the fourth was added this year.  They are traded every year, and new ones are bought from local dealers who submit bids.  The cars are driven about 55 or 60 thousand miles each per year.
