Unique Decorations
Tribune photo published Dec. 12, 1950
A group of Louise Crawford school pupils are caught by the Tribune photographer in the act of decorating their Christmas tree with mittens. Representing all grades of the school are: Ava Lee, Iris McMahon, Mary Jamison, Robert Wells, Don Plaister, Charlynn Forsythe and Bruce Snyder. The mittens are to be sent to children in foreign countries.
There'll be warm hands in Europe this winter, as a result of Crawford school pupils' generosity. Each student has provided a pair of new mittens which will be sent to another child in a foreign country. Gathering of the gifts has been accomplished in a novel way: Instead of decorating the school Christmas tree with the usual lights and baubles, 175 pairs of cozy mittens cover the giant fir. Their gay and varied colors lend brilliance to the tree, and Crawford youngsters are delighted with the scheme. They're aware, too, of the vital need for the comfort which their "decorations" will bring to cold little hands in far-off lands.
