About Us

Ames Historical Society headquarters is located at 416 Douglas Avenue. As of early 2012, the building is paid off, but the Society continues to rent out the majority of the building to cover operating costs. Because of this, the Society currently occupies only Suite 101, accessible from the door on Douglas Avenue, not the main entrance on the corner of Douglas and 5th. The long-term goal is to use the top floor of the building as a museum and the ground floor to house our archives with space for research, presentations, and offices.

The Ames Historical Society headquarters includes archival storage, offices, meeting space, and a small display space. Artifacts are currently stored in more than ten off-site storage facilities.
