Do you recognise these St. Cecilia School first or second graders?
Dan Konrady -- I am 100% certain that I have identified one of the children giving the play.... She [located at far left] is my aunt, my mom's youngest sister, Josephine Ann "Joann" Daniels. She was born in 1942 and would have been 8 years old in Dec. 1950 and living in Ames because my mom graduated from AHS in May 1950.
This 1952 image of Girl Scouts at Day Camp
has the girls numbered for identification purposes.

Can you supply any information about this image from a postcard printed by Gerbracht, supplied by Dick and Sue Erickson. One person is identified as John Houge, but there is no indication which member of this railroad work crew is John. John Houge (1854-1937) came to Union Township from Illinois, married Olina (Olena, Oleva) Hettisater in 1884, and settled in Palestine Township.
Chris Murray says, [Concerning] The help identify: John Houge in the Gerbracht postcard picture, he is the 3rd man from the right, the older gentleman. I did some checking and that is the correct one. I have also talked with Sue Erickson about it. The picture was probably taken in the 1920's, by his age. He worked on a section gang on the railroad on the 1920 census and was 60 years old living in Ames. The 1930 census his occupation was a check mark in the column for "laborer undocumented" in Ames, age 70 years.
Terry Adams supplied this photo of men, perhaps
Ames business men.
Can you furnish some identities?
Terry Adams says,That's my dad, Frank Adams in the front row at the left. Next to him is Rex Beresford from Collegiate. Fourth from left is Clint Adams. In the back row fifth from left is Chev Adams.
Louise Thompson wrote,The photo of the men that Terry Adams supplied includes my father, W.H. Thompson, seated 2nd from right. I can't identify anyone else, but he probably can. Maybe Kiwanis? They met at the Hotel Sheldon Munn...but I can't identify any of the men I knew who were in Kiwanis with my dad, so that's just a guess.
This group posed in front of the fieldhouse
in 1954 includes
Curly McNabb (left) and Harvey Taylor (facing
camera just right of center).
Who are the others?
1951
Are these Girl Scout Brownies? What
park is shown?
Louise Thompson says,The group of girls from 1951 is indeed a Girl Scout group. Judy Mathison and Sandy Akin are sitting in the left foreground. Dottie Timmons is holding the cup out. I can't identify anyone else. The scene is at Brookside Park, at the 4-fireplace structure just over the bridge to the right (north) - and it looks like a cold day! I hope that was hot chocolate being ladled out.
Do you know the Cub Scouts or firemen in this 1958 photo?
I am pretty sure that the fireman at left in the 1958 photo with cub scouts is Delbert Petersen, who became an assistant chief. The fireman at right looks like (Roy???) Whetstone. There were two Petersens on the Fire department in 1966, and I seem to remember that there may have been two Whetstones. -- Wayne Beal
Roy was my dad and he was not a fireman. He had 2 brothers, Harold and Clint, that were firemen, but they are not in the photo... -- Karla
The fireman on the left is Delbert Peterson; the one on the right is Bud McKern.
Can you supply any information about this photo from 1955?
We have several responses for this photo taken in First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Steve Soesbe offers, I'm sure the guy on the left in the back row is Clay Ogg. He's the younger brother to Beverly who played on the "Munsters" under the name of Beverly Owen. Pretty sure the girl second from the left in the second row is Marilyn Clem. She still lives in Ames and could fill in some blanks for you. Far right in the first row is Nancy Jones. If I remember right her dad was a glass blower at Iowa State (great show and tell!). A few guesses are - next to Clay in the back is Al Oslund. Back row right is either Don V. Miller or David Peterson. I'm sure that when they are identified, I'll have been in school with most of them, but that's all I feel fairly sure about.
Nancy Jones Schroeder --Two down from me (Nancy) is Marchia Wright. The fellow on the top row at the very end is Don Miller. Second row from top third one from the left might be Linda Hockman. Mary Jo Hyler is next to me.
Steve McDonald -Third row up from bottom, 2 in from left is Karen Battles. Right of her is Linda Hockman.
Do you know the Scouts and Explorers in this
photo from 1955?
Mayor Lawlor and the Scouts appear to be in
the court room of the old municipal building.
Thanks to Louise Thompson:I can identify several of the Scouts from 1955. First row - Louis Thompson is the last on the right. Second row - I think that's Dick DeVaul behind the mayor's hand - Ed Hansen, Terry Adams, (?), Dick Boast, Dwayne Catron, Steve Henderson?, Bill Brindley. Third row - Karsten Smedal, ???, ???, ???, Earl Holtz, ???, Gary ?, Jim Johndreau, Bob Stebbins, Jan Severson, Dick Ramsey, ???. Fourth row - ???, Joe Anderson, Larry Jones, ???, Dave Erickson, ???, John Murray, Dave Henderson. These guys would have been AHS classes of 56, 57, 58, and 59.
Can you help identify people in this photo of a Girl Scout at a banquet in 1955?
Thanks to Steve McDonald -The girl in this photo is Becky Simmering. Her father was the principal of Roosevelt School. She was a classmate of mine. I think the man to the left was the pastor at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Robert Larson. The picture might be at that church basement. I'm not 100% on the pastor, but sure about Becky.
We need more names and a year for this St. Cecilia First Communion photo.
