This 1898 view of west campus was taken from Old Main. Buildings include, from left, Chemical and Physical Laboratory (Chemistry Building), Laboratory of Mechanics (still survives), Power Station, Foundry, and Carpenter Shop The road in the distance is Sheldon.
A. L. Champlin watches his son Louis play in the snow. The Champlin family home at 114 Welch is visible behind Black Beauty. The brick structure is the Champlin building (drug store and grocery) at the corner of Lincoln Way and Welch.

This image faces east. At the time this photo was taken, Onondaga (Main) Street was being surveyed for the tracks of the electric trolley. In the background one can see the engine house for the steam Dinkey which is about to be retired.
