T-4 KOOSER COMPLETES COURSE AT FOXHOLE U.
Ledo, Assam, India - T-4 Phil C. Kooser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Kooser of 1211 Iowa avenue, Ames, has completed a course in freehand drawing at Foxhole University here.

Foxhole University, the largest school for American soldiers in the India-Burma theater, is a practical solution for those "sweating out" the return home.  Many business and vocational subjects are offered, along with courses that provide high school and college credit.

The students are men who helped carve out the Stillwell Road from Ledo to Kunming, China; who helped lay down the parallel pipeline and telephone line, and who fought against the Japs in the jungles of Burma.  Now that the war is won, they have resumed their studies in preparation for the return to civilian life.

Operated under the auspices of the Information and Educational Section, Foxhole University is one of the U.S. Armed Forces Institute's world-wide chain of schools.

VETERAN OPENS BUSINESS - Among the first of the returned veterans to enter a business of his own Phillip C. Kooser, 1211 Iowa avenue, today announced the opening of a wholesale home-made candy business.  Kooser will specialize in a pecan fudge which will be retailed exclusively from the West Street Popcorn Shop at 2814 West street, which is owned and operated by his father, Ronald Kooser.

Phil Kooser entered the army on Oct. 27, 1942, and served in the China-Burma-India theater for 14 months with the engineers on the Stillwell Road.  He was discharged from Fort Sheridan, Ill., on Feb. 18 of this year.  Kooser graduated from Ames high school with the class of 1939.
