LOCAL GIRL TELLS OF LIFE AS A WAVE - The life of a WAVE is a very thrilling experience for one Ames girl who recently reported at Hunter College, N.Y.  She is Betty Rynkiewitz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Rynkiewitz, 622 Ridgewood.  She has written of her activities and says she is very happy there, likes it so much and everything it stands for.

She signed up for the Glee Club, and they broadcast last Thursday and will again this Thursday over WOR, Mutual.  Their songs were "Navy, Full Speed Ahead" and "Sixpence." She is also a member of the swing sextette who did a couple of variety numbers last Monday night singing "Old Black Magic" and "Blue Skies."  She has composed a song entitled "WAVES of America" which won an inter-platoon singing contest.

Miss Rynkiewitz described the entertainment provided for them and said she saw a regular broadcast with Luella Parsons, Dick Todd, Lower Basin Street and Oscar Levant.  This Monday they will see Frank Sinatra.

She said they had extended the indoctrination period to six weeks instead of four and she will be in this first six-week group.  They get their first shore liberty today and expect to see New York.  She has two weeks left at Hunter college.
